It's been a few weeks ago that I wasn't sure for what kind of game I'll buy. I was sure about one thing: it must have been a racing game. I was unsure about what to choose, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit or Gran Turismo V. I decided fot both. I didn't opened GT% yet, but I doubt that it can be better than NFSHP.
Let's put it simple: this game is fantastic.
Graphifcs / presentation is top-notch. Every detail is perfectly well-done, and Criterion Games made an excellent work paying high attention to this.
You'll experience the best gameplay experience in racing arcade games ever. The cars are sick, simply amazing and finger-chosen, but you'll fell you guts escaping through your mouth when you're about to beat that 0,5 second difference best time and then you see the lights of an incoming car on the opposite direction and have to think fast how to maneuver after a close turn.
Soundtrack is superb, with tracks that shift from hip hop to pop and rock & electronic, but if you don't like those styles, you can customize it with your own mp3 list. But the best part in my oppinion are the car souns. Every car has an unique engine sound, and you can cleary distinguish when you're driving a V6 or V8... besides, when you drift or ride on wet tarmac, you can clearly listen your tires screaming or the sound of water on them... abslolutely amazing.
Maybe some people should say that it gets a bit repetitive because it's a very simple game. You run, scape from cops, bet times and try to improve. But the game keeps you addicted and you'll enjoy doing so, trust me. The multiplayer function let you compare times with your friends's via web, plus send scraps to then after bet their best times. It's really funny and generates a good competition. Maybe you'll think: "My god, how can I beat this time? How could he possibily scored that time??? It's impossible..." but you will think: "If he could do it, so I can." And you can do.
The mechanics of the game are incredibly realistic, and you can use it on your favor. It's not simply accelerate or brake. you have to save your nitro and use it so you can take the most of it (like after turns or at up hills, when your car loses a bit of acceleration). Imagine yourself drivinga Lamborghini Murciélago in a National parksorrounded by giant sequóias and, after reaching 300km/h, you see your car "opening it's wings" (The structure of Murciélago does it to optmizes aerodynamics and cool engine, they transported it to the game.)
You can play as a runner or as a cop, and every style is funny, even in multiplayer session.
If you tink this gets too repetitive, you stop playing, rest for a while, but you'll find yourself wanting to play againg. it's very addictive.
Let me tell you about crashes. Woah, if you played some of burnout series you'll probably know what to expect, but I never saw something like that... The scratches and pieces of ink flying from your car at the moment of the crash are astonishing and impressive. You can pause the game and see it from every angle, it's fantastic. It's like the game simulates everything running (at incredible speed) simultaneously. You can take pictures and share it with your friends, like a true facebook.
There are some issues that surely people will disaprove (too insignificant for me):
- no split screen (you don't need to... play connected on PS network for multiplayer... splitting screen reduces the spetacular view of the entire scenario. You shouldn't split it, trust me. If your family is big, it's better to share the gameplay by turns, like old school racing games.)
- no wheel controler compatible (it must be fun playing with these, but I like to test my skills at the standart dualshock. Maybe they will fix it in the future)
- not too much customization (you only choose colors of the cars - I particularly think that it's a total waste of time. The standart cars are already great, you don't need to change them.)
- No manual shift (if you think you're a pro and this is for noobies,you don't know how do you have to test your wits controlling brake, accelerator, nitro in a narrow turn with 3 cop cars behind you and an helicopter above your head, throwing spike strips on the road ahead. This game has a lot of challenge)
If you like racing games, this is a must-have for you. PS3 version is the best of all (I have seen it on PC and XBox 360. This one is cristaline and runs smoother.
This is the best NFS of all tie and in my oppinion one of the best racing games ever.
